Sowore Demands Release of Abducted FIJ Journalist, Slams Tinubu Regime for Media Manipulation

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has issued a scathing indictment of the Tinubu Regime, stating that the government is attempting to manipulate and control the media by abducting journalists such as Daniel Ojukwu.

Sowore condemned the Tinubu Regime’s apparent silencing of critical voices in the media, pointing out the hypocrisy of a government that owns numerous media outlets yet targets journalists. He specifically called for the immediate release of Daniel Ojukwu, an FIJ reporter abducted by the Nigerian Police and reportedly relocated to Abuja.

Sowore made this known on his X page, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the abducted journalist, Daniel Chukwu, and to decry the Tinubu regime’s apparent attempts to silence the media.

He wrote, “Tinubu @officialabat Regime is abducting journalists left, right, and center, yet the crooked man owns TV stations, radio stations, and newspapers all over the place. @Policeng must release Daniel Ojukwi immediately! Police Move Abducted FIJ Reporter Daniel Ojukwu to Abuja fij.ng/article/police…”

Recent reports have disclosed that Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist for the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), was apprehended by Nigeria’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on orders of Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun. Ojukwu has since been detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Lagos, on suspicious charges of cybercrime, a thinly-veiled attempt to silence his unflinching investigative reporting that may have struck a nerve with powerful figures.
