Take It Back Movement Intervenes Over Missing ₦2.6 Million from Customer’s GTBank Account

Take It Back Movement (TIB) today staged an intervention at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Kosofe branch in Lagos following an alleged unauthorized debit of ₦2.6 million from the account of a customer named Ariyo Ahmed.

According to a report signed by Folayemi Akinfolarin (Bosslady), a member of the Take It Back Movement’s Lagos Chapter, the incident began on Sunday, 6th April 2025, when Ahmed discovered that ₦2.6 million had been withdrawn from his account through an alleged unauthorized transaction on the e-commerce platform Jumia.

Despite promptly visiting GTBank’s Kosofe branch to lodge a complaint and request a reversal, Ahmed was met with disappointment. “The bank did not refund the money. Instead, when our member protested, he was arrested and taken to the police station,” the report stated.

In response to what they described as injustice and poor customer treatment, TIB members organized a protest at the bank premises on Monday, 28th April 2025.

However, tensions escalated when the bank management called the police. “The police invited us for a dialogue at the station, where the branch manager and a bank lawyer were present,” Akinfolarin explained.

During the meeting, police authorities promised to investigate the incident thoroughly. They reportedly committed to contacting Jumia to determine the true origin of the disputed transaction. “We have submitted statements and are awaiting the investigation’s outcome,” the report noted.

The Take It Back Movement is demanding a full refund of the ₦2.6 million to Ahmed. “Further action will be considered based on the investigation’s findings,” Akinfolarin emphasized.
