TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT, OSUN STATE CONDEMNS ARREST OF UNIVERSITY OF ILESA GRADUATE OVER NYSC MOBILISATION DELAY

7th April, 2026.

The Take It Back Movement, Osun State, strongly condemns the arrest and alleged assault of Adedoyin Temitope, a graduate of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, following his protest over the unjust and prolonged delay in his NYSC mobilisation.

While we acknowledge that he has now been released, this does not excuse the treatment he was subjected to.

It is deeply disturbing that a young graduate who has waited for over two years after completing his academic programme was subjected to intimidation, brutality, and arrest simply for demanding his right.

The explanation reportedly given by the institution regarding discrepancies in his JAMB registration details is not only insufficient, but points to a clear failure on the part of the system. No student should suffer for errors beyond their control, especially after fulfilling all academic requirements.

Even more troubling are allegations that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, ordered his arrest, leading to his detention by the Nigeria Police Force and subsequent transfer to the State CID in Osogbo. If true, this is a clear abuse of power and an attempt to silence a legitimate grievance.

We are also concerned by claims that Temitope has been a consistent voice for students’ rights, which raises serious questions about possible victimisation.

TIB Osun State demands the following:

  • A transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his arrest and alleged assault
  • Urgent resolution of all issues delaying his NYSC mobilisation
  • Accountability for any individual or authority found to have abused their power

Nigeria must not become a place where young people are punished for speaking out. Institutions must be held accountable, and the rights of citizens must be respected at all times.

We stand in solidarity with Adedoyin Temitope and all affected graduates.

Justice must prevail.

Ajayi Tunde
