Reports Expose Governors’ Roles in Orchestrating Chaos and Violence During Protests

A recent independent report by the Independent Coalition for Democratic Governance has revealed that Governors Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State and Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State played significant roles in sponsoring hoodlums to orchestrate violence during the recent nationwide protests.

The report accuses them of mobilizing these individuals to target political rivals, destroy public and private property, and engage in looting.

The initial peaceful protests that took place earlier in August were a genuine expression of the Nigerian people’s desire for improved living conditions and governance. The demonstrations saw a significant turnout of citizens united in their cause. However, the situation took a turn when individuals in positions of authority began clamping down on peaceful protesters and also sponsoring thugs to infiltrate the protests.

These hired individuals were reportedly instructed to engage in destructive activities, including vandalizing public and private property and looting valuable items.

The report raises serious concerns about the potential manipulation of peaceful demonstrations for political gain and the implications for the safety and security of citizens and their property.

The report also highlight specific incidents, including the destruction of the APC secretariat in Zamfara State, vandalism and arson at the NCC Industrial Park in Kano State, and attempted arson at the residence of the former governor of Zamfara State.

The alleged involvement of the Governors in sponsoring hoodlums during the nationwide protests has drawn widespread condemnation. Many view their actions as a calculated attempt to capitalize on public discontent for their political and personal interests, compromising the integrity of the protests and endangering the safety of citizens and their property.
