The severe lack of facilities at Ughievwen Primary School in Otor-Ughievwen, Delta State, has left 197 pupils with no choice but to sit on bare floors during class.
This revelation was made known by Monitng, a civic technology platform, that brought attention to the school’s inadequate infrastructure within the oil-producing community.
The situation has resulted in a dire learning environment that is significantly hindering students’ educational progress.
Taking to its X handle, Monitng stated with pictorial evidences, “SHOCKING!!!
Dear Gov @RtHonSheriff
Welcome to Ughievwen Primary School in Otor-Ughievwen, in the HEART of Ughelli South LGA, Delta State.
An oil-producing community where over 197 pupils sit on the bare floor during class.
We Urge the @DSGovernment to kindly intervene.”
Emphasising that the current conditions “have created an environment that is not only hindering the learning process but also poses a substantial threat to the well-being and safety of the students.”, it added.
Also, in a related development, days ago, reports had revealed that the Delta State retired local government workers and retired public primary school teachers cried out to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to come to their aid over what they described as “fraudulent” N8million allegedly deducted from the gratuity of each pensioner.
The group had accused the Delta State Chapter of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the State Auditor General (Local Government) and a consulting firm (Logic Forensic Consultant) of conspiring to fraudulently deduct from each retiree between N2million and N8 million of their gratuities and, called on governor Oborevwori to intervene and redress the matter.
