AKIN ALUTA & SOWORE: An Unimaginable Twist of Fate, Written by Damilare Adenola

I have two videos in this thread, and they tell a story of how costly it can be to turn against your own brother just to please an outsider.

Three days ago, on October 1st, Akin Aluta, while criticizing Sowore, went as far as accusing him of hijacking the EndBadGovernance protest. He was especially enraged that the Take It Back Movement, led by Sowore, rejected President Tinubu’s proposal for dialogue, while Akin expressed his group’s willingness to sit and negotiate when called.

The following day, while leading his own protest, Akin Aluta, some members of his group and their van, were unexpectedly arrested, detained, and badly beaten by the very agents of the state he had been willing to engage with.

Three days after Akin’s tongue-lashing, in an ironic twist, the very person he had condemned—Sowore—stepped up to sign his bail bond.

This act of solidarity, despite the prior criticisms, should serve as a lesson to Akin: trying to please the ruling class at the expense of your fellow oppressed can backfire.

Sometimes, the people you oppose today are the very ones who will stand by you when it truly counts.
