TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT DEMANDS RESIGNATION OF MUYIWA ADEJOBI AND INSPECTOR GENERAL OVER DISTURBING POLICE COMMENT

The Take It Back Movement vehemently condemns the recent comment made by Nigerian Police Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, regarding the powers of the police force and their conduct.

Adejobi’s remarks not only perpetuate a dangerous narrative that normalizes unwarranted police intrusion, but they also conveniently sidestep the crucial issue of police brutality.

As an organization dedicated to upholding human rights and promoting good governance, we refuse to tolerate this blatant disregard for the rule of law and the rights of Nigerian citizens.

The primary role of the police force is to protect and serve the people, not to act as an instrument of oppression. The notion that the police can break into any house or place where they are “reasonably convinced an offense is being committed” is a slippery slope that opens the door to widespread abuse of power and further erodes trust in law enforcement.

Adejobi’s statement regarding police dressing and appearance is a blatant attempt to distract from the real issue at hand: the systemic abuse of power and lack of accountability within the Nigerian police force. The Inspector General’s silence on this matter only serves to underscore the deep-rooted issues that plague the institution.

In light of this inexcusable statement and the ongoing failure to address police misconduct, the Take It Back Movement demands the immediate resignation of both Muyiwa Adejobi and the Inspector General of Police.

As individuals in positions of authority within law enforcement, they must be held accountable for their actions, and their inability to maintain the integrity of the police force can no longer be ignored.

We call upon our fellow citizens, civil society organizations, and all those who value justice and the rule of law to join us in condemning this disturbing statement and demanding a comprehensive overhaul of the Nigerian police system.

Only through collective action can we create a society that respects and protects the rights of all its members and holds those in positions of power accountable for their actions.
