The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination is a crucial milestone for Nigerian students seeking admission into tertiary institutions. However, the process of writing these exams has become a harrowing experience for many, with some losing their lives in the process.

Students travel long distances to reach their designated exam centers, often using various modes of transportation, which can be perilous. Road accidents claim lives every year, and the loss is not only tragic but also avoidable.
In addition to accidents, students are also vulnerable to kidnappings and other forms of insecurity while traveling to exam centers.
The recent surge in banditry and kidnappings in Nigeria has made it increasingly difficult for students to feel safe while undertaking their JAMB exams.
We had about the Several JAMB Candidates Killed In Oyo-Ogbomoso Road Crash While Going For UTME in the early time of jamb period, how many lives do we need to loose like the NYSC members who also travel long distance to serve a father’s country.
The father’s country should better work on it security to fight insecurities, banditory, kidnapping etc. This situation calls for urgent attention from the government and JAMB officials.
A simple yet effective solution would be for JAMB to allocate exam centers based on proximity to students’ local government areas of residence. This would significantly reduce the distance students need to travel, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents and kidnappings.
By prioritizing student safety and well-being, we can prevent unnecessary loss of life and ensure that students can focus on their academic pursuits without fear.
The government and JAMB officials must take immediate action to address these safety concerns. Allocating exam centers closer to students’ residences is a practical step towards ensuring their safety.
By doing so, JAMB can ensure that students can sit for their exams safely and without undue stress. It’s time for the authorities to prioritize student safety and take concrete steps to prevent these avoidable tragedies.
