A grassroots organizer of the Take It Back Movement (TIB) in Oworonshoki, Prince Ope-Yemi Benjamin has shared a video and pictures revealing the disturbing state of the Oworonshoki Police Division, describing the condition as shameful and degrading to officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a post on his Facebook page, Prince Ope-Yemi exposed the squalid environment in which the officers operate, stating that their changing and resting room is barely habitable.
According to him, the main building’s rooftop is leaking, and during the rainy season, the offices are often flooded.
“Here’s the life Oworonshoki Police Division is subjected to. The room you see is their resting and changing room. And the top of their main building has its roof leaking. At raining season, their offices are immersed in flood,” he wrote with video evidence.
He further expressed deep disappointment over the neglect of such a critical institution, which he described as one of the most important public service bodies in the Oworonshoki community and the country at large.
“No dignity in their labour. No good life. Men of the Nigeria Police Force have been subjected to degrading treatments,” he added.
Prince Ope-Yemi also criticized elected representatives for failing to address the issue, accusing them of being disconnected from the realities faced by ordinary citizens and public servants in their constituencies.
He specifically called out Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, Hon. Sanni Ganeey Babatunde Okanlawon, and the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, for their lack of action in remedying the poor state of infrastructure at the police station.
“Sadly, ours is a community with supposed people’s representatives who are not in any way responsible to the people, nor the community they are meant to serve,” he lamented.
Calling for civic responsibility and community involvement, Prince Ope-Yemi stressed the need for collective action in addressing the rot in local governance and infrastructure, noting that building a better Nigeria must begin with attending to “every little but important detail” within communities.
He concluded by praising Omoyele Sowore, the national convener of the Take It Back Movement, for his consistent leadership in the fight for justice and good governance.
“Omoyele Sowore is leading in the fight for a better Nigeria and it is mandatory we all see to the betterment of our respective communities too,” he wrote.
