Officers Who Extorted Student in Ogun Detained After TIB Intervention

The Take It Back Movement, TIB, Lagos Chapter, has confirmed progress in the case of police extortion involving officers who reportedly forgot their official cap in the victim’s vehicle after collecting money from him in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Following TIB’s swift intervention and the viral circulation of the incident on social media, credible information reaching the Movement indicates that all the officers implicated in the extortion have been summoned to the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, where they are currently detained.

According to updates received by the Lagos State Coordinator of TIB, Comrade Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek (popularly known as Scotty Aluta), the victim of the extortion has also confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Igbeba Division, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, reached out to him to arrange a refund of the extorted sum.

Upon verification, the DPO admitted contacting the victim and disclosed that he is expected to appear before the Ogun State Commissioner of Police tomorrow to give an account of the incident and explain how the extortion took place.

In a move to ensure transparency and safeguard the victim from possible intimidation, Comrade Adeyemi has directed the Ogun State Coordinator of TIB, Comrade Festus Afofun, alongside another comrade, to accompany the victim to the Commissioner’s office during the session.

“This development once again reaffirms the power of organized citizen action and public accountability in confronting police corruption in Nigeria,” Comrade Adeyemi stated. “It is a clear demonstration that when citizens stand together against injustice, impunity will always bow to resistance.”
