Take It Back Movement Jigawa Chapter Announces Protest Against Poverty, Forced Evictions, and Anti-People Tax Policies

The Jigawa State Chapter of the Take It Back Movement, TIB, has announced plans to stage a mass protest on Friday, October 17, 2025, in Dutse, the state capital.

According to a statement signed by the State Coordinator, Engr. Sani Aminu Taura, the protest aims to draw national attention to what the “crippling poverty, forced evictions, exploitative fuel taxes, and oppressive tax reforms” imposed by the Tinubu-led administration.

In the statement, it was made known that pin recent months, millions of Nigerians have been pushed deeper into poverty as the cost of living continues to rise beyond the reach of ordinary citizens.

It accused the government of worsening economic hardship through its so-called tax reforms, which it said target the poor while shielding the rich and politically connected.

“The most recent forced demolitions and evictions across parts of the country, which rendered countless families homeless overnight, are glaring examples of government cruelty and disregard for human rights,” the statement read. “These acts are not only inhumane but constitute crimes against humanity under international law.”

The Take It Back Movement listed four major demands that it wants the government to address immediately:

  1. An immediate end to forced evictions and demolitions of poor communities.
  2. Reversal of the anti-poor fuel tax and other exploitative tax policies.
  3. Implementation of pro-people policies that prioritize jobs, housing, and social welfare over political greed.
  4. Accountability for officials responsible for the demolition and displacement of poor Nigerians.

The Jigawa state chapter of the TIB movement called on students, workers, traders, artisans, and the unemployed to join the peaceful protest, describing it as a collective stand against economic injustice and hardship.

“We refuse to remain silent as the government continues to suffocate the poor while rewarding the corrupt elite. Enough is enough,” the statement declared.

The protest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM in Dutse, with participants expected to march peacefully through key parts of the city.

In its concluding statement, the Jigawa chapter reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful action, urging all Nigerians to “reclaim their dignity and demand a Nigeria that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.”
