RE: ESCALATING REPRESSION—UNLAWFUL ARRESTS OF SOWORE, BARR. ALOY EJIMAKOR, EMMANUEL KANU, AND OTHER #FreeNnamdiKanuNow PROTESTERS

PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE GLOBAL DIRECTORATE OF TAKE IT BACK (TIB)
October 23, 2025

RE: ESCALATING REPRESSION—UNLAWFUL ARRESTS OF SOWORE, BARR. ALOY EJIMAKOR, EMMANUEL KANU, AND OTHER #FreeNnamdiKanuNow PROTESTERS

The Global Directorate of Take It Back (TIB) condemns in the strongest possible terms the wave of unlawful arrests targeting peaceful protesters and human rights defenders in Nigeria.

  • On Monday, October 20, 2025, Nigerian security forces arrested Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, legal counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, alongside Emmanuel Kanu, Kanu’s brother, and several other peaceful protesters.
  • On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the repression escalated further with the arrest of Sowore, convener of TIB, after he honored a police invitation in Abuja. He has not returned since.

These arrests are not only unlawful—they are a direct attack on the constitutional right to peaceful protest and a desperate attempt to silence voices of conscience.

Let it be clearly understood:

  • Any harm to Sowore, Barr. Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, or any detained protester will be met with mass resistance, both within Nigeria and across the diaspora.
  • The Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, and the Tinubu regime will be held fully responsible for their safety and well-being.
  • The world is watching, and history is recording.

We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all those arrested in connection with the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protests.

In this regard, the Global Directorate of TIB aligns fully with the statement issued earlier by our National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon. His warning of mass resistance reflects the collective resolve of our movement: we will not be silenced, we will not retreat, and we will mobilize until justice is done.

Signed,
Chidi Cadet Nwanyanwu
Director-General, TIB Global
