Nigeria’s Real Crisis: When the Masses Undermine Their Own Liberation, Written by Nazi Bashi

It is painful to admit, but the truth must be told: the same masses we claim to fight for are often the ones standing in the way of Nigeria’s liberation.

A major problem is the lack of political consciousness, especially among many young people.

Democracy is not just about voting it is about understanding governance, asking questions, and demanding accountability.

Unfortunately, many people are disconnected from these realities.

And the root cause?

A lack of interest in history.

If you don’t know where you’re coming from, you won’t know where you’re going. That is why many Nigerians fall for the same recycled politicians, people who have had opportunities to serve, yet have little to show beyond half-measures.

Our founding fathers believed Nigeria would evolve with time.
From the industrial age to the digital era, every generation is expected to rise to the challenge of its time.

But instead of progress, we keep repeating the same political mistakes.

Nobody is born with privilege, we all came into this world with nothing.
Yet today, many people defend those who have contributed to the country’s decline, simply because of sentiment, religion, or tribe.

As elections approach, we must ask ourselves hard questions:
Are we choosing leaders based on competence, integrity, and ideas, or familiarity and empty promises?

There are Nigerians with vision, capacity, and integrity who are ready to lead.
But because they don’t have money to deceive the masses, they are ignored or mocked. Integrity has now become a disadvantage, and that is dangerous.

So we must ask honestly:

Are the usual political figures truly more competent and more credible than alternatives like Omoyele Sowore ?

If we are truthful, we will realize that much of what we see is driven by hypocrisy.

Nigeria does not lack capable people. What we lack is a critical mass of citizens willing to think independently and act responsibly.

The time to change is now.
