The Take It Back Movement has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over what it described as a shocking case of kidnap, extortion, and abuse of power allegedly carried out by senior officers attached to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos.
In the petition dated Saturday, August 16, 2025, and signed by the group’s Lagos State Coordinator, Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, the movement accused Commander Kalu and Superintendent of Police (Supol) Olamilekan, alongside other officers under their command, of abducting and dispossessing one Mr. Onyeka Nwokolo of his savings amounting to ₦5.1 million.
According to the petition, the incident occurred on Friday, August 2, 2025, when Nwokolo was reportedly accosted in the Ikotun area of Lagos. He was allegedly forced into a vehicle by the officers, taken to Alagbon, and stripped of his phone. The officers were said to have gained access to his banking application, discovered his savings meant for a boutique business, and compelled him at gunpoint to transfer the funds.
Details of the alleged extortion revealed that ₦1 million was transferred to one Saheed Adetunji (Access Bank account number 0072995973), while the sum of ₦4.1 million was paid into an account belonging to one Ajonuma Esther Chinagorom (Moniepoint account number 8161142516).
The petition stressed that the officers’ actions amount not only to extortion but also to “kidnapping for ransom under arms” — a grave criminal offence under Nigerian law.
“This brazen act is disheartening and unacceptable. The very officers constitutionally empowered to protect citizens have turned into predators, abusing their office and violating the law they swore to uphold,” the movement stated.
The group demanded an immediate independent investigation into the matter, the arrest and prosecution of the implicated officers, the refund of the extorted ₦5.1 million to Nwokolo, and disciplinary sanctions against all those involved. It further urged the police leadership to reassure Nigerians that they can conduct their businesses and move freely without fear of abduction and extortion by security operatives.
The Take It Back Movement warned that failure to address the case would only deepen public distrust in the Nigeria Police Force and erode citizens’ confidence in the rule of law.
As of press time, the Nigeria Police Force had yet to respond to the petition or issue a statement regarding the allegations.
