The Take It Back Movement (TIB) has secured the recovery of ₦5.1 million extorted from a young victim by police officers attached to Alagbon, with senior police authorities pledging disciplinary action against those involved.
TIB’s Lagos State Coordinator, Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeeq, disclosed that sustained advocacy by the Movement prompted direct engagement from top police officials and led to the refund arrangement.
“I received a call from the CP X-Squad Alagbon and it lasted for more than 20 minutes.
She appreciates what TIB is doing for humanity exposing the bad eggs in the force! She prayed for me and request the boy come to her office on Monday for a refund and assured me officers that carried out the heinous act will be prosecuted accordingly.
“She said if organization like TIB does not exist, we will have more police victims. She appreciated us and promised justice would be served.
Note: The officers that extorted that poor boy has been calling him since yesterday for settlement, they promised to send the 5.1 million naira to his account and settle amicably. I told him to give them my number and talk to me directly, I know they will not call me 😂 and if they do, I go swear for them nii.”
Adeyemi added that, despite attempts by the implicated officers to push a private “settlement,” TIB insisted on a formal, transparent process under the supervision of the police hierarchy.
In a subsequent update, Adeyemi said the recovery was confirmed at an even higher level of command:
“UPDATE: I just received a call from the Assistant Inspector General of police Alagbon. She was disappointed with his men and assured justice will be served.
She told me the money has been recovered and asked me to come for a refund tomorrow. I told her I won’t be available but would be sending a lawyer in company of the victim.
She said the officers are gone already, she apologized for the misconduct and promised justice would be served.
Always speak up! Don’t die in silence!”
According to Adeyemi, TIB has nominated a lawyer to accompany the victim to finalize the refund, while the Movement monitors promised disciplinary measures.
Earlier, the Take It Back Movement had petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over this case of kidnap, extortion, and abuse of power that was carried out by senior officers attached to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos.
In the petition dated Saturday, August 16, 2025, and signed by the Take It Back Movement Coordinator, Lagos State Chapter, Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, the movement accused Commander Kalu and Superintendent of Police (Supol) Olamilekan, alongside other officers under their command, of abducting and dispossessing one Mr. Onyeka Nwokolo of his savings amounting to ₦5.1 million.
According to the petition, the incident occurred on Friday, August 2, 2025, when Nwokolo was reportedly accosted in the Ikotun area of Lagos.
He was reportedly forced into a vehicle by the officers, taken to Alagbon, and stripped of his phone. The officers were said to have gained access to his banking application, discovered his savings meant for a boutique business, and compelled him at gunpoint to transfer the funds.
Details of the extortion revealed that ₦1 million was transferred to one Saheed Adetunji (Access Bank account number 0072995973), while the sum of ₦4.1 million was paid into an account belonging to one Ajonuma Esther Chinagorom (Moniepoint account number 8161142516).
The petition stressed that the officers’ actions amount not only to extortion but also to “kidnapping for ransom under arms” — a grave criminal offence under Nigerian law.
“This brazen act is disheartening and unacceptable. The very officers constitutionally empowered to protect citizens have turned into predators, abusing their office and violating the law they swore to uphold,” the movement stated.
TIB then demanded an immediate independent investigation into the matter, the arrest and prosecution of the implicated officers, the refund of the extorted ₦5.1 million to Nwokolo, and disciplinary sanctions against all those involved.
The statement further asked the police leadership to reassure Nigerians that they can conduct their businesses and move freely without fear of abduction and extortion by security operatives.
The Take It Back Movement then warned that failure to address the case would only deepen public distrust in the Nigeria Police Force and erode citizens’ confidence in the rule of law.
