NEW YEAR STATEMENT BY THE TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT

NEW YEAR STATEMENT
BY THE TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT

As we step into a new year, the Take It Back Movement extends deep appreciation and revolutionary greetings to all our members, coordinators, allies, and supporters across Nigeria and in the diaspora.

The year behind us tested our resolve, courage, and commitment to the ideals of justice, accountability, and people-centered governance. Yet, in the face of intimidation, repression, economic hardship, and shrinking civic space, members of the Take It Back Movement stood firm.

Across states and communities, you organized, mobilized, spoke truth to power, and defended the dignity of the Nigerian people. For this, the National Secretariat commends you wholeheartedly.

Over the past year, the Movement recorded significant strides through coordinated campaigns, sustained advocacy, and courageous direct actions. From resistance against bad governance and insecurity, to standing with victims of state violence, unlawful detentions, and economic exploitation; from community-based interventions and solidarity actions, to strategic national campaigns that kept the spotlight on injustice, members of TIB proved once again that organised citizens remain the strongest force for change.

These efforts were not without cost. Many comrades faced harassment, threats, arrests, and personal sacrifices. Yet the Movement endured, strengthened by solidarity and the unshakable belief that Nigeria must work for the many, not the privileged few.

As we move forward, the struggles ahead demand even greater vigilance and organisation. The unfolding tax reform agenda, as currently proposed and implemented, raises serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and the disproportionate burden on working people. Take It Back Movement must be prepared to interrogate, resist, and mobilise against policies that deepen inequality and economic injustice.

Furthermore, we urge members to brace up for the forthcoming national elections of the Take It Back Movement. These elections are critical to strengthening our internal democracy, renewing leadership, and repositioning the Movement for the next phase of struggle. All members are encouraged to participate actively, responsibly, and with a collective commitment to unity, discipline, and ideological clarity.

The year ahead will demand courage, sacrifice, strategic thinking, and unwavering solidarity. We call on all members to remain organised, principled, and prepared for the battles ahead. The Take It Back Movement remains committed to non-negotiable ideals: justice, accountability, equity, and the liberation of the Nigerian people from oppression in all its forms. Happy new year, comrades

Signed,
Sanyaolu Juwon
