The Bauchi State Chapter of the Take It Back Movement (TIB) has raised concerns over the non-execution of a N40 million classroom construction project at Rafin Zurfi Primary School in Bogoro Local Government Area of the state, describing the situation as a clear case of neglect, lack of transparency, and misuse of public funds.
In a press release issued on April 12, 2026, and signed by its state coordinator, Nazif Bashi, the movement expressed outrage over revelations that a project captured in the 2025 Federal Government budget has not been executed despite the allocation of funds.
The movement said findings by the civic accountability organization BudgIT Tracka showed that N40 million was earmarked for the construction and furnishing of a block of two classrooms at Rafin Zurfi Primary School, located in Daram, Lusa District of Bogoro Local Government Area.
According to TIB, the project has not been implemented, and members of the host community only became aware of the budgetary provision recently, “This development is shocking and unacceptable,” the statement read. “It reflects a systemic failure and a disturbing pattern of neglect toward rural communities that depend heavily on government intervention for basic infrastructure.”
The movement further lamented that pupils in the community continue to learn under unsafe and deteriorating structures, some of which date back to the year 2000. Parts of the buildings, it said, have already collapsed, forcing members of the community to carry out temporary repairs just to keep learning activities going.
TIB described the situation as a violation of the fundamental right to education and warned that the continued abandonment of essential school infrastructure threatens the future of children in the area, “Education is a fundamental right, not a privilege,” the statement said. “Allowing children to study in dilapidated structures while funds have already been budgeted for improvement is a betrayal of public trust.”
The movement strongly condemned the failure to execute the project despite full budgetary provision and demanded immediate clarification from the implementing agency, National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NICO).
TIB also called on relevant anti-corruption agencies and oversight bodies to investigate the matter and determine the status of the allocated funds.
Among its demands, the movement demand that authorities should immediately commence and complete the classroom project to ensure that pupils at Rafin Zurfi Primary School have access to a safe and conducive learning environment.
The movement reiterated its commitment to advocating for transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, stressing that government resources must be used for the benefit of citizens, “The people of Bauchi State deserve better,” the statement added. “We will not relent in demanding accountability, transparency, and justice in the management of public resources.”
