Take-It-Back Movement Demands Justice for Policewoman Fired for Reporting Rape of Minor by Colleague in Edo

The Take-It-Back Movement has filed a petition with the Office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, as well as the Office of the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The petition seeks to address the unjust dismissal of a policewoman who exposed the rape of a minor by her colleague, Abraham Ozuobor, in Edo State.

The petition titled “Petition For Review and Reinstatement, Unjust Dismissal From Nigeria Police Force,” the Take-It-Back Movement’s Abuja branch called for the review and reinstatement of unjustly dismissed police officer Edith Uduma. The petition, which was submitted on behalf of Uduma, was signed by Agena Robert Ande, a representative of the movement.

It reads, “We humbly submit this petition to seek your intervention in the gross injustice perpetrated against Mrs Edith Uduma and her husband (Mahhamed Ibrahim) with Force No.: AP/NO 228652 by the Edo State Police Command,” the petition read in part.

“Her dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force and the deduction of the rank of her husband from (Inspector to CPL) was unjust, and we request a thorough review of her case.”

The Take-It-Back Movement’s petition asserts that Edith Uduma was unfairly dismissed from her position without due process, including a proper investigation or fair hearing. Additionally, the movement contends that Uduma was falsely accused of attempting to extort money from the alleged rapist, Abraham Ozuobor.

The petition also points to the role of Osemwegie Lilian, the divisional police officer of the Ibie Police Station where Uduma served, in hindering the investigation and protecting Ozuobor. According to the Take-It-Back Movement, Lilian’s actions not only contributed to the miscarriage of justice but also exposed Uduma to threats and harassment from the DPO and other officers.

Furthermore, the petition argues that the DPO’s conduct has undermined the integrity of the police force.

Reports had earlier revealed that Edit was accused of demanding bribe of N1million and failed to report the case to her superiors when it occurred. Edith has continued to maintain her innocence stating that she was being victimised for going against the will of the DPO of the Ibie police station who warned her against reporting the case.

According to Saharareporters, witnesses have confirmed that Edith Uduma had indeed informed her superiors about the incident when it occurred.

In a recent development, SaharaReporters revealed that Edith’s second daughter, 14-year-old Goodness Ibrahim, has gone missing following alleged threats made by the Auchi Police Area Commander. The eldest daughter, whose name is being withheld for security reasons, raised the alarm in a conversation with SaharaReporters.

Goodness Ibrahim has yet to be found at the time of this report.
