#FreeDanielOjukwu: Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju Uncover Link Between Tinubu Associate and Detained Journalist Daniel Ojukwu

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju have revealed that they visited detained journalist Daniel Ojukwu at the Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) in Abuja yesterday, Monday.

During their meeting with Daniel Ojukwu, Sowore made a startling discovery—the detained journalist was being held by Hon Orelope Adejoke Adefulire, a former Special Adviser to Muhammadu Buhari and a close associate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s president.

Despite their efforts, activists Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju were unable to secure the release of journalist Daniel Ojukwu, who remains detained under orders from Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s associate, Hon Orelope Adejoke Adefulire. Unfazed by this setback, Sowore and Adeyanju have promised to continue fighting for Ojukwu’s freedom, undeterred by any political or societal pressure that may stand in their way.

“Adeyanju Deji and I met Daniel Ojukwu yesterday in detention at the FCIID in Abuja and found out he was being detained by one of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s people, Hon Orelope Adejoke Adefulire, former SSA to Muhammadu Buhari on SDGs. We tried everything we could to get him released and the efforts would continue today. #RevolutionNow”, Sowore wrote on his Facebook page.

Recent reports have disclosed that Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist for the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), was apprehended by Nigeria’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on orders of Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun. Ojukwu has since been detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Lagos and later moved to Abuja, on suspicious charges of cybercrime, a thinly-veiled attempt to silence his unflinching investigative reporting that have struck a nerve with powerful figures.
