The Take-It-Back Movement has condemned the recent land-grabbing incident in Geleodun, Ogun State, which they say has led to egregious violations of property rights and the displacement of local landowners.
The organisation said it had “received credible reports that a family in Owode, who have been law-abiding, tax-paying citizens for over 30 years, are facing an unlawful seizure of their land”.
In a statement on Sunday, the Ogun State chapter of the Take-It-Back Movement through Comr. Akanbi Festus Afofun (Ifadọla), said, “This land, owned by their mother—a native of the community—is being forcibly taken from them despite ongoing resolution processes from the commissioner of police Ogun State command.
“The perpetrators of this injustice under the rule of Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo Kolawole Arẹmu (Alake of Egba land) and others are flagrantly disregarding the law by selling the land and erecting structures on it, all while leveraging non-state-actors and thugs to enforce their will.
“This brazen act of oppression is further compounded by the inaction of the police area commander, Adeniji Adedeji who has failed to protect the rights of these citizens and uphold the rule of law.”
The organisation, therefore, demanded an ‘immediate and decisive action from the government to investigate this situation thoroughly”.
It said, “We call on the authorities to ensure the resolution process is respected and those responsible for these illegal activities are held accountable.
“The failure to act against such flagrant violations sets a dangerous precedent and threatens the peace and stability of our community.
“We stand with the victims of this unjust land grabbing and urge all concerned citizens to join us in demanding justice. The Take-It-Back Movement will not tolerate such oppression and will continue to fight for the rights of all individuals to live free from fear and injustice.
“Together, we can ensure that the rightful owners of the land are protected and that the law is upheld. We call on the government to act now and bring an end to this grievous contempt for justice.”
