Following the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests which started today on the 1st of August 2024, during which 11 lives were tragically lost at the hands of the Nigerian police, the Take It Back Movement strongly condemned the use of lethal force by the Tinubu government to suppress demonstrations across Nigeria, which resulted in the tragic loss of eleven lives. Two deaths occurred in Borno, three in Kano, and six in Suleja.
We calls for an end to the government’s brutal tactics and demands that those responsible for these senseless killings be held accountable.
These deaths are a painful reminder of the impunity with which the Tinubu government is willing to crush peaceful dissent. It is not enough to merely mourn these lives lost. We demand justice for the victims and their families. The government must cease its violent tactics and instead meet the demands of the Nigerian people.
The deaths of these 11 protesters must serve as a rallying cry for all Nigerians who believe in democracy and human rights. We cannot allow the voices of peaceful dissent to be silenced by state-sanctioned violence. The time has come for the Tinubu government to recognize the power of the people and to respect our fundamental rights to freedom of expression and assembly.
The Tinubu government must take immediate action to stop the Nigerian police force from killing peaceful protesters. We will not rest until justice is served and the voices of the oppressed are heard. The fight for a better, more just Nigeria continues.
