Journalist Decries Tinubu’s “Heartless Leadership” Amidst Citizens’ Suffering

In a stinging critique of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, Nigerian journalist Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed has denounced the president’s recent purchase of a N150 billion Airbus A330 amidst widespread hunger and insecurity.

Taking to his Facebook page on Tuesday, Ahmed highlights the glaring disconnect between Tinubu’s actions and the suffering of millions of Nigerians, calling into question his commitment to the well-being of the people he serves.

“No doubt Tinubu is a heartless leader who prioritizes his own personal interests over the well-being of over 200 million Nigerians.

“At a time when people struggle to afford a square meal a day, he purchased a new Airbus A330 at the rate of 150 billion , while citizens are suffering from hunger and insecurity.”, he wrote.

Condemning Tinubu’s apparent prioritization of personal interests over national concerns, Ahmed predicts that this pattern of behavior will only exacerbate the country’s economic woes and deepen its entanglements with international financial institutions such as the World Bank and IMF.

“It is clear that nothing positive will come from his administration, which seems intent on inflating the economy to benefit the World Bank and IMF, to the detriment of the oppressed people.

“May the suffering inflicted on the oppressed return to those responsible a thousandfold.”

Earlier reports had revealed that president, Bola Tinubu, on Monday left the country for an official trip to Paris, the capital city of France.

This was announced by media aide, Bayo Onanuga in a statement he issued on X, saying the President used the newly acquired luxury Airbus A330 aircraft.

Valued at N150billion, the jet landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 8.29pm on Sunday.

Another report also emerged earlier on Sunday that the aircraft touched down at Abuja airport on Sunday evening, after departing from EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg in France at 4:16 pm.

Bayo’s statement reads: “President Tinubu departed Abuja Monday for Paris, France using the new Airbus A330, which replaced the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700(BBJ) bought under the Presidency of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“The new plane, bought far below the market price, saves Nigeria huge maintenance and fuel costs, running into millions of dollars yearly.

“The recommendation to replace the B737-700(BBJ) followed an investigative hearing by Nigeria’s parliament that questioned the plane’s safety record and cost efficiency, especially after it malfunctioned during a trip to Saudi Arabia.

“The Nigerian Senate’s security and intelligence committee recommended replacing the ageing aircraft in the presidential fleet to reduce downtime and operational expenses.

“The new plane is spacious and is furnished with the state-of-the-art avionics, customized interior and communications system.”
