The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit filed against #EndBadGovernance protesters.
This dismissal was pronounced by the court in a ruling delivered on Thursday.
The lawsuit, which was dismissed by the Federal High Court in Abuja, named several high-ranking government officials and agencies as defendants. These included the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chiefs of Army and Defence Staff.
The Court dismissed the lawsuit brought against the #EndBadGovernance protesters due to a lack of diligent prosecution.
This decision came after the plaintiffs, who initiated the suit against the protesters and various government officials and agencies, failed to appear in court, while the defendants lacked legal representation.
Justice Peter Lifu expressed his astonishment at the situation, prompting him to strike out the case for lack of diligent prosecution.
The 17 plaintiffs, representing Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, had initially approached the court to request an injunction against the #EndBadGovernance protests. Their argument centered on the claim that the demonstrations infringed upon their fundamental rights, including freedom of movement, human dignity, property ownership, and socio-economic development. Additionally, they asserted that the protests posed a threat to national peace and security.
