Human rights activist and youth leader of the African Action Congress, Orunsolu Oluremi who is popularly known as Remyte Goonz, has called on Nigerians to stand strong against government suppression tactics ahead of the #October1st protests.
Taking to his Facebook page on Friday, Goonz warn that the Nigerian government will employ familiar strategies to quell dissent, such as using traditional rulers, political thugs, and religious leaders to intimidate citizens and dissuade them from participating in demonstrations.
“The Nigerian government is using the same tactics to suppress the masses from protesting at #October1st, just like they’ve ever been doing because they love the continuous looting, killing and oppressing us a s citizens, don’t not fall for it again. Traditional rulers will still use oro, political thugs living in our various communities will still scare you from protesting and some of your religious leaders will give you fake revelations amidst your hunger, starvation and poverty at all level.”, he wrote.
Urging Nigerians not to fall for these scare tactics, Goonz emphasize the importance of uniting against the government’s corruption, which has led to widespread poverty, hunger, and starvation.
“DON’T FALL FOR THER GIMMICKS AGAIN, EVEN YOUR PARENTS WHO FAIL TO FIGHT FOR YOU SO YOU CAN ENJOY WOULD ALSO TELL YOU NOT TO PROTEST, REMEMBER YOU HAVE A FUTURE(CHILDREN & LINEAGE) AHEAD OF YOU. #GetSense #october #October1st #WeCantContinueLikeThis #wecantcontinuewithlies #FearlessInOctober #highlights #RevolutionNow #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria”
Earlier, the convener of #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has declared that the #FearlessInOctober protest will take place on October 1, with or without his participation.
Sowore said this on Monday morning when he appeared on News Central TV.
According to him, the next massive protest will not end until the government fulfils all the requests made by the protesters.
He said: “And I want to make it clear here whether I participate or not and I am addressing our security people, it is going to happen. Just like the one in August, I was not here and it happened.
“Even in 2019, the protest that I was arrested for – #RevolutionNow – happened even though I was arrested two days before the protest. So nobody can stop it.
“I only know that it will start on October 1, I don’t know when it will end. Nigerians are tired of suffering. Did you know that in 2023 in France, French workers protested for six months non-stop? So why the complaint about the two months (the gap between #EndBadGovernance and #FearlessInOctober protests) when there is still hunger, starvation and corruption?
“People are even complaining that we should not announce the date, that it should happen spontaneously.”
