Take It Back Movement has expressed strong condemnation of the Delta State Government following the arrest of a man who brought attention to the dilapidated state of roads in the region.
The man known as Uge Kenneth garnered attention for shedding light on the dire condition of local infrastructure. After publicly voicing his frustration over the state of the roads in his community, Kenneth was taken into custody by the Delta state government.
Reacting to this development, the Delta State Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, Ochuko Famili denounced the arrest of Uge Kenneth for exposing the poor state of roads in Sapele.
“We strongly condemn the arrest of Mr Uge Kenneth who was taken into custody by the police 4days ago for rightly exposing the depilated state of roads in his community shell road Sapele , Delta state.”, he said.
Famili criticized the government’s actions as oppression rather than service, demanding Governor Sheriff and the Commissioner of Police to release Kenneth and address the issues he raised and he further emphasized the need for the government to focus on improving road conditions instead of intimidating citizens who speak out against neglect
“The purpose of government is to serve not to oppress it’s citizens and the arrest of Mr Kenneth is nothing short of intimidation by certain state leaders who were supposed to attend to the issues he lamented about.
“We call on the Delta state governor Sheriff and the commissioner of police to release the young man in good faith and turn attention to issues he rightly raised.”, he added.
Few days ago, in a video that has now gone viral, Kenneth Ugo was seen on the dilapidated road where stagnant water had gathered due to the poor condition of the road, lamenting.
His actions were intended to draw attention of the state government to the poor condition of the road in the area.
He directly called out the Delta State Governor and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, saying, “Governor Sheriff, former Governor Okowa, you have failed us. Look at the road, it’s like a pool.”
It was following his daring public protest that reports of his arrest by state actors began to circulate widely.
