Detained Ghanaian activist Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor has expressed gratitude to fellow activist Omoyele Sowore for his unwavering solidarity and shared commitment to combating poor governance in Africa.
According to a report by Saharareporters, the activist expressed his appreciation for fellow activist Omoyele Sowore’s solidarity and thanked him for traveling from Nigeria to visit him in the police cell where he is currently detained in Accra, Ghana.
He wrote: I wish to express my sincere gratitude to comrade Omoyele Sowere (@YeleSowore) for travelling from Nigeria to visit me yesterday at the police cell where I am being detained!

“The emergence today of a new generation of African leaders, who refuse to accept mediocre leadership and the indignity of poverty inspires me that the future of this continent will look nothing like its current station. Our struggle is linked, and Africa will be free in our lifetime!”
In response to the detention of Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor and other activists, Sowore has condemned the Ghanaian government’s actions.
He made it known that the planned arraignment of these activists is unlawful and constitutes a violation of their fundamental human rights.
Sowore wrote: “Yesterday at Accra regional police headquarters, we visited Comrade Lawyer Oliver Barker @barkervogues, the convener of the Democracy Hub, who is unjustly incarcerated for fighting against bad governance in Ghana.
“We also met Comrade Ralph, a versatile, bold, and charismatic young activist from @Ghfixthecountry. These patriots are championing #StopGalamseyNow, the struggle to end illegal mining that has destroyed their water.
“This morning, Oliver and others illegally detained will appear in court in Accra. We demand that the Ghanaian government #Freethecitizens immediately.
“Africa Unite! #RevolutionNow.”
Reports had earlier revealed how thousands of protesters took to the streets of Accra, Ghana’s capital, from October 3 to 5, 2024, demanding an end to illegal mining, also known as “Galamsey,” and its devastating environmental impact.
The demonstrators vowed to continue applying pressure until the government takes concrete actions to address the problem.
The protesters also called for the release of 53 youths detained in police cells following their arrest on September 24 during a protest against illegal mining, which the protesters blamed for polluting the country’s waterbodies and forests.
