Omoyele Sowore, a well-known human rights activist and convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, has openly condemned Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sowore accused Wike of being the primary corruptor of Nigeria’s judicial system. According to Sowore, Wike is referred to as the “Golden Boy of the Judiciary” in judicial circles due to his alleged ability to manipulate and corrupt the legal system.
“Nyesom Wike has been a major corruptor of the judiciary. In judicial circles, he is called the “Golden Boy of the Judiciary” because of his uncanny ability to help corrupt the judiciary,” Sowore said in a post on his X handle on Tuesday.
Sowore specifically pointed to an instance during Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa’s tenure as President of the Court of Appeal, when Wike awarded her a contract to build the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
According to him, Wike’s sway over the Nigerian judiciary was so significant that his desires would be fulfilled before he had even expressed them.
Bulkachuwa served as the President of the Court of Appeal from 2014 to 2020, making her the first female President of the Nigerian courts of appeal. She was succeeded by Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.
Sowore said, “Even before he became governor of Rivers State, Wike was the go-to guy to buy judgements or judges during election tribunals or contentious legal matters.
“Building judges’ houses is a direct bribe; besides this brazen bribery of judicial officers, Wike is also allocating lands to senior judges in choice areas in Abuja as we speak!”
“Wike has the Nigerian judiciary in his breast pocket,” Sowore added.
