Sowore Condemns Police Brutality, Mourns Talented Igbo Jah’s Extra-Judicial Killing

Prominent human rights activist and RevolutionNow movement convener Omoyele Sowore has expressed his condemnation of police brutality following the extra-judicial killing of talented musician Igbo Jah in Enugu.

“Igbo Jah” identified as Okezie Chikezie Mba, was reportedly shot dead by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force attached to anti-cult unit of the Enugu State Police Command.

An X user Naija Trend which shared the video of lifeless body of the deceased in a pool of blood on his handle, said he was killed while performing in Enugu in what had been tagged, “accidental discharge”.

It wrote: “Popular Ogene Musician ‘Igbo Jah’ Has Tragically Passed After Being Shot By Anti-cult Police Officer In What Has Been Described As An ‘Accidental Discharge’ While Performing In Enugu.”

Reacting to the news of Igbo Jah’s death on his X page, Sowore expressed condemnation towards the Nigerian Police’s continued extra-judicial killings in Nigeria. He shared his appreciation for the late musician’s work and connection to Ogene music.

He wrote, “The @PoliceNG has wasted too many Nigerians; I did not know much of Igbo Jah before the latest @policeng extra-judicial murder of this talented citizen; I won’t lie; Ogene music is one of my faves on earth. Rest In Power, Igbo Jah!”

As a final remark, Sowore pledged to continue the fight against police brutality until the Nigeria people win, “We will keep fighting fighting @policeng brutality until we win. Sad we can’t bring you back! #RevolutionNow”, he added.

Saharareporters had earlier reported that barely two weeks ago, some policemen on stop-and-search operations had allegedly shot and killed one Smith Odinaka along the Enugu-Port-Harcourt Expressway, while on steering.

The Enugu State Police Command has yet to fish out the rogue policemen who committed the atrocious act nearly two weeks after the incident that happened on October 13.
