‘Suspension Not Enough’, Lawyer Presses for Thorough Investigation into Shocking Confession of Lagos Governor’s Aide, Wale Ajetunmobi

Human Rights Lawyer Inibehe Effiong has called for a thorough investigation into the shocking confession of Lagos Governor’s aide, Wale Ajetunmobi, stating that suspension alone is not enough.

Wale Ajetunmobi, recently confessed to the alarming trail and assassination of individuals involved in the burning of the TVC News station in Lagos. In a now-deleted social media post, Ajetunmobi claimed that the perpetrators were tracked down and executed in response to the arson attack.

Reacting to this in a letter addressed to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Effiong argues that the confession warrants a detailed inquiry to ensure justice is served and that those responsible for any wrongdoing be held accountable.

He wrote, “Dear Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,

“Suspending Wale Ajetunmobi as your aide does not address the alarming confession of extra-judicial killings made by him. This matter has to be investigated thoroughly by law enforcement agencies.

He should be taken into custody immediately.”

“Wale confessed in clear terms that those who burnt TVC News station at CMD Road, Ikosi, Lagos were trailed and assassinated.”

Effiong asserts that as a media organization, TVC would likely want this matter investigated, “As a media organization, I believe TVC will want this grave revelation investigated.”

He calls for immediate action from the Lagos State Government and Police Command, urging transparency and accountability in addressing the disturbing allegations, “It is imperative for urgent actions to be taken. The Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Police Command have to come clean on this matter.”

He questioned why no one has been charged and emphasized the public’s right to know the truth behind the TVC News attack. Effiong highlighted that Ajetunmobi’s confession of extrajudicial killings necessitates a thorough investigation, warning against the government acting as judge and executioner, and emphasizing the judiciary’s role in determining guilt.

“Where are the suspects or persons arrested in connection with the arson? What are their names? Has anyone been charged with the arson committed at TVC station?

I have been wondering why there is no news on the fate of those who attacked TVC News. Now that the suspended aide of the Lagos State Governor has confessed that the suspects were murdered, the public deserves answers.

We cannot tolerate a situation where the government or those sympathetic to the government or the political class will act as executioners.

The judiciary is the sole constitutional authority empowered to determine the guilt of anyone accused of a crime.”
