Take It Back Global Movement Canada Directorate to Visit Amnesty International Toronto on World Human Rights Day

Toronto, December 10, 2024 – In a significant move to mark World Human Rights Day, the Take it Back Global Movement, Canada Directorate, is set to visit the Amnesty International Toronto office. This visit aims to highlight pressing human rights issues and protest the recent arrest of Nigerian human rights advocate, Dele Farotimi.

The Take it Back Global Movement, known for its unwavering commitment to justice and democracy, has expressed profound concern over the unlawful abduction of Dele Farotimi by the Nigerian police. The organization alleges that this act was orchestrated by SAN Afe Babalola, underscoring the urgent need for accountability and reform within Nigeria’s justice system.

In a letter addressed to Amnesty International Canada, the movement’s Canada Branch, led by Dr. Chidi Nwanyanwu, outlined their demands. They called for the immediate and unconditional release of Dele Farotimi, the abolition of Nigeria’s Cyber Crimes Law, and comprehensive reforms in Nigeria’s criminal justice system. The letter emphasized the systemic corruption and inefficiency that have eroded public trust and left many victims of injustice without remedy.

The Take it Back Global Movement has urged Amnesty International Canada to take several actions, including issuing a public statement demanding the application of the rule of law in Dele Farotimi’s case, advocating for the abolition of the oppressive Cyber Crimes Law, supporting judicial reform initiatives, and collaborating with other human rights organizations to apply international pressure on the Nigerian government.

As concerned Nigerians residing in Canada, the movement’s members are counting on Amnesty International Canada to lead the charge in defending human rights and advocating for justice. The visit to the Toronto office of Amnesty International is expected to draw attention to these critical issues and galvanize support for the movement’s demands.
