Nigerian human rights activist, Olamide Thomas, has been released from detention after successfully meeting the bail conditions set by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Olamide was abducted by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on December 13, 2024. Reports suggest that she was “abducted” from her Lagos residence and transported to Abuja, where she faced allegations of cyberbullying and defamation.
The accusations revolved around purported instances of online harassment aimed at Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as well as Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the Force Public Relations Officer.
Following her abduction, Thomas was detained at the Nigerian Police Force’s National Cyber-Crime Centre in Abuja until her arraignment on December 20, 2024.
After the court granted her bail, the process to perfect her release was finalised on Thursday, according to her counsel, Seprebofa M. Oyeghe.
Confirming to Take It Back Movement, Oyeghe confirmed that Thomas’ release warrant had been signed, ending her ordeal.
“We just departed the Suleja Custodial Centre, Suleja with our client, Olamide Thomas.
“She was admitted to bail on 6th January. Today, the bail perfection process was concluded and her release warrant signed,” Oyeghe revealed.
Meanwhile, her Counsel, Seprebofa M. Oyeghe, Esq., Agena Bob who is one of the leaders of the Take It Back Movement, Abuja branch, alongside his colleagues and other activists went to the Correctional Centre to secure her release.
