Activist Olamide Thomas Vows to Fight Injustice Following her Release, Reveals Disturbing Truth Behind Incarceration

Nigerian activist Olamide Abiodun Thomas who was recently released from detention, has revealed disturbing information regarding corruption within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and also vowed to fight injustice following her release.

Thomas claims that her unjust incarceration has exposed a larger network of human rights violations and power abuse by high-profile individuals within these organizations.

Olamide who took to her Facebook page on Saturday, asserted that her time in detention has granted her access to numerous cases of individuals held unjustly for over five years, who have now reached out to her for help in their fight for justice. She also alleges that she received insider information from both the FCID and NCoS that could prove vital in combating corruption and promoting nation-building.

“My being abducted by officers of the NPF seems to be a blessing to the nation at large, lots of people in incarceration unjustly (human rights violation, power intoxication by high profile individuals, etc) who have lost hope since they have been there for more than 5 years! Most of them now need help of our movement to fight for them.”, she wrote.

She further disclosed that two sources confided in her about her unlawful detention, claiming that a prominent Ogun State businessman, previously exposed by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) in connection with the Nigeria Customs Service, allegedly bribed officers to prolong her detention. Thomas also revealed that during her time at FCID, she experienced health issues due to a low-dose poisonous spray that was allegedly administered in her cell.

Olamide vowed to collaborate with Sahara Reporters and FIJ to uncover the truth behind these allegations, referring to those involved as “syndicates working harmoniously with corrupt police officers to eliminate activists and investigative journalists.” She also expressed concern for fellow activist Omoyele Sowore, claiming that there have been three attempts on his life this year.

“In addition, I got so many information from FCID and the NCoS that can be useful for fighting corruption and for nation building.
Today, 2 of my sources called on my secret line to reveal some information about my unlawful incarceration! I was told that Muyiwa was allegedly offered money by a self acclaimed business tycoon in Ogun state who was exposed by FIJ in connection with the Nigeria Customs Service to keep me in detention for as long as possible for criticizing him in support of the revelations by FIJ. I was also told the reason I had health issues in FCID detention was as a result of low dose poisonous spray they were contracted to put in my cell which made me to have epistaxis the following morning. These people are syndicates who work harmoniously with corrupt police officers to eliminate activists and investigative Journalists!
There are lots of mysteries to be unravelled, I have gotten whistleblowers to work in conjunction with Sahara Reporters and FIJ.”

To expose the deep-seated corruption within the paramilitary, Thomas has stated her intention to seek assistance from US-based whistleblower protection and advocacy groups, who previously campaigned for her release. She aims to ensure that these alleged human rights violations and corruption cases are brought to light while protecting the anonymity of her sources.

“Also, the informants revealed that there have been 3 attempts to eliminate Omoyele Sowore this year but he escaped all! I was asked to tell him to continue to be careful as always.
The high level of corruption within the paramilitary needs to be exposed!!!!
I’ll contact the whistleblower protection and advocacy groups in the US who campaigned seriously for my release for assistance as regards exposure of these evil perpetrators while protecting the anonymous whistleblowers.”, she added.

Thomas was reportedly “abducted” on Friday, December 13, 2024, by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force from her Lagos residence and moved to Abuja over allegations of cyberbullying and defamation.

She was accused of cyberbullying Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu,  Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and and the Force Public Relations Officer.

Following her abduction, Thomas was detained at the Nigerian Police Force’s National Cyber-Crime Centre in Abuja until her arraignment on December 20, 2024.
After the court granted her bail, the process to perfect her release was finalised on Thursday.
