PRESS RELEASE
TIB Global Disputes Award to Nigeria Police Force Amidst Rights Violations
Toronto, Canada – January 15, 2025
It is with great concern that we at TIB Global address the recent commendation awarded to the Nigeria Police Force by SERVICOM.
We must question the validity and merit of this award. The reality on the ground starkly contrasts with the accolades being presented.
The demands from the “End Bad Governance” protests, which called for significant reforms and accountability, remain largely unimplemented.
In recent times, the police have been used by the government and certain elites to illegally abduct innocent citizens, such as Farotimi, Nurse Olamide Thomas, and Seaking, among others. These actions have led to gross violations of human rights and have undermined public trust in the NPF.
Furthermore, the security situation in Nigeria has deteriorated significantly, with an alarming increase in kidnappings, ritual killings, and heightened crime rates. The absence of effective security measures has left many Nigerians living in fear and insecurity.
We demand that the SERVICOM Presidency reconsider this award and to conduct a more thorough and transparent evaluation of the NPF’s performance.
It is imperative that such recognitions are based on genuine progress and tangible improvements that positively impact the lives of Nigerian citizens.
TIB Global remains committed to advocating for true reform and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force. We call on all stakeholders to join us in demanding higher standards and real change in the service delivery of the NPF.
Signed,
Dr. Chidi Cadet Nwanyanwu
