Comrade Manesah Ashukus, a member of the Take It Back Movement’s Abuja branch, has publicly condemned the Nigeria Police Force over the abduction of fellow activist Henry Nwodo on Sunday night.
Ashukus who took to his social media handle described the arrest as a “show of shame” and emphasized that such actions would not deter the movement from its mission.
He wrote, “The Nigeria police is still displaying a show of shame, ArrestingNwodo Henry will no change anything because the people are determined. We demand the immediate release of Henry and a public apology #EndPoliceExtortion #RevolutionNow”
Several reports had revealed that Henry is being taken to an undisclosed court this afternoon. Furthermore, the police have denied the activist access to his family and lawyer.
“Comrade Henry Nwodo who was arrested yesterday (Sunday) is on his way to an unknown court now,” a source privy to the situation said.
“The police raided his location being an arrowhead in the mobilisation for today’s protest planned by TIB Movement. He was brutally arrested. He has not been allowed to see anyone since.”
“Henry Nwodowas was arrested where he went to buy food. But before his arrest, he was with members of TIB Movement around 8.45 pm on Sunday,” a source close to the organisation said on Monday morning.
“He has not been released yet; he was arrested because of the Take It Back Movement’s protest against police authorities.”
Take It Back Movement had called on Nigerians to join them at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday as they launch a series of mass campaigns aimed at permanently ending police extortions and unlawful roadblocks across the country.
This initiative follows a recent incident involving Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the group, who was summoned by the police for questioning after recording a video during an altercation with police officers in Lagos.
