PRESS RELEASE
Urgent Appeal to the Bayelsa State Government to Resolve ASUU NDU Strike
February 8, 2025
We, the Take It Back Movement in Bayelsa State, are compelled to address the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Niger Delta University (NDU).
This prolonged industrial action is causing significant distress and disruption to the academic pursuits of students and the overall stability of our state’s educational system.
The Take It Back Movement recognizes the legitimate grievances of ASUU NDU, who have been forced to take this action due to the government’s neglect of their welfare and repeated failure to implement previously agreed-upon terms.
It is unconscionable that the future of our students is being jeopardized by the government’s inaction and indifference.
We, therefore, issue an urgent call to the Bayelsa State Government to immediately address the demands of ASUU NDU and bring an end to this strike.
Governor Douye Diri must prioritize the welfare of lecturers and the education of our youth by engaging in meaningful negotiations and fulfilling the agreements made with ASUU.
The Take It Back Movement stands in solidarity with the students, striking unions of NDU and the people of Bayelsa State who are suffering as a result of this crisis. We demand that the government act now to resolve this issue and prevent further damage to our educational system.
Failure to meet the demands of ASUU NDU will be met with a Day of Rage by students and youths across Bayelsa State. We will mobilize and take to the streets to demand the immediate resumption of classes and a commitment to investing in the future of our state.
We urge all concerned citizens, parents, and stakeholders to join us in demanding immediate action from the Bayelsa State Government. The time for empty promises and neglect is over. The future of our students and our state depends on it.
Signed:
Comr Precious Briggs
