Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has publicly denounced former Nigerian dictator Ibrahim Babangida’s upcoming book, claiming it will falsely attribute the annulment of the June 12 elections to the late General Sani Abacha.
Taking to his social media handles on Wednesday, Sowore argues that Babangida’s narrative is riddled with falsehoods and does not accurately reflect historical events.
The book, which is set to be launched today, has already garnered significant attention and criticism from various political figures and activists.
Sowore’s comments add to the growing concern surrounding the potential historical inaccuracies and revisionism present in Babangida’s account.
“Tomorrow, former Nig. dictator Ibrahim Babangida will launch his book, which is expected to falsely blame Abacha for the annulment of June 12 elections, admitting they were free and fair. Babangida’s narrative will be total falsehoods!”, Sowore wrote.
Earlier reports had revealed how the Former military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has set to launch the book, 32 years after leaving office.
The memoir, titled, “A Journey In Service,” is set to be released today, February 20 at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The regime of IBB was defined by many events, including the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), which sparked a nationwide riot, among other economic regulations.
There was also the unresolved murder of the veteran journalist, Dele Giwa, among other controversial issues.
The IBB era climaxed with the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
