
The Take It Back Movement’s Edo State Chapter has released a press statement today, 16th of March 2025, condemning the killing of Chinedu Abimbor by members of the Nigerian Police Force in Ekpoma and expressing concern over rising police brutality in the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday at a checkpoint in the Ekpoma area of Esan West Local Government Area of the state.
“The Take It Back Movement, Edo State Chapter, vehemently condemns the killing of Chinedu Abimbor,” stated Comrade Hafiz Lawal, the TIB Coordinator for Edo State. “The recent surge in police brutality, especially this tragic incident, has left us deeply alarmed and concerned for the safety of innocent citizens in the state.”
According to the press statement, Chinedu Abimbor, a young Nigerian man, was “unjustly shot while driving home with his brother.” The movement described the incident as a “reckless and irresponsible act committed by those who are meant to protect us” and highlighted the “deteriorating security situation in Edo State.”
The Take It Back Movement also expressed awareness of “countless innocent lives lost, attacked, injured, or illegally detained due to police misconduct in Edo State.”
Comrade Hafiz Lawal demanded that “the government take immediate and decisive action to halt these atrocities and restore faith in the justice system.”
In addition to calling for government intervention, Take It Back Movement demanded justice for Chinedu Abimbor, with a warning that should the government fail to address the situation and ensure justice is served, “the Take It Back Movement Edo State Chapter will have no choice but to mobilize peacefully in the streets, demanding the rights and safety of our citizens.”

Condemnation of the Killing of Chinedu Abimbor and Call for Justice
The Take It Back Movement, Edo State Chapter, vehemently condemns the killing of Chinedu Abimbor by members of the Nigerian Police Force in Ekpoma.
The recent surge in police brutality, especially this tragic incident, has left us deeply alarmed and concerned for the safety of innocent citizens in the state.
Chinedu Abimbor, a young and defenseless Nigerian, was unjustly shot while driving home with his brother.
This reckless and irresponsible act committed by those who are meant to protect us highlights the deteriorating security situation in Edo State.
The Take It Back Movement is painfully aware of the countless innocent lives lost, attacked, injured, or illegally detained due to police misconduct in Edo State.
We demand that the government take immediate and decisive action to halt these atrocities and restore faith in the justice system.
And also, we demand justice for Chinedu Abimbor. Should the government fail to address this dire situation and ensure justice is served, the Take It Back Movement Edo State Chapter will have no choice but to mobilize peacefully in the streets, demanding the rights and safety of our citizens.
