Take It Back Movement Slams Governor Mutfwang Over Plateau Killings, Demands Urgent Action

The Plateau State chapter of the Take It Back Movement has issued a statement condemning what it describes as the “ongoing genocidal killings” in the state, following the massacre of over 52 persons in Bokkos Local Government Area.

In the strongly-worded release titled “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: GOVERNOR MUTFWANG MUST ACT OR RESIGN”, the movement accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of gross dereliction of duty and complicity through silence.

“This bloodshed is a horrifying indictment of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s failure to discharge his constitutional duty to protect lives and property,” the statement read.

Citing Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the movement emphasized that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government,” arguing that the Governor has failed in this mandate.

According to the statement signed by John Onah, State Coordinator of the movement, the government’s continued inaction “emboldens terrorists and sends a dangerous message that Plateau lives do not matter.”

“The people are no longer safe. The state is bleeding, and the government is watching. This is not governance, it is abandonment,” the group stated.

The movement laid out a set of demands, including the immediate deployment of adequate security forces to vulnerable communities, the arrest and prosecution of both the perpetrators and their sponsors, and the launch of a transparent public inquiry into the ongoing violence.

Warning of escalated civil action, Take It Back Movement threatened to “mobilize a statewide protest” if their demands are ignored.

“We will take our grief and resistance to every corner of Plateau State, peacefully but powerfully, until justice is done,” the statement declared, invoking the constitutional rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly under Sections 39 and 40.

The statement concluded with a stark warning to Governor Mutfwang: “He must act or be remembered as the leader who watched his people perish.”

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: GOVERNOR MUTFWANG MUST ACT OR RESIGN

The Take It Back Movement, Plateau State Chapter strongly condemns the ongoing genocidal killings in Plateau State, particularly the latest massacre of over 52 persons in Bokkos.

This bloodshed is a horrifying indictment of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s failure to discharge his constitutional duty to protect lives and property.

Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) makes it clear: the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
Governor Mutfwang’s persistent silence and lack of concrete action amount to complicity by omission. His inaction emboldens terrorists and sends a dangerous message that Plateau lives do not matter.

The people are no longer safe. The state is bleeding, and the government is watching. This is not governance, it is abandonment.

We demand the immediate deployment of adequate security to vulnerable areas, the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators and their sponsors, and a transparent public inquiry into the ongoing massacres.

Should these demands be ignored, the Take It Back Movement shall mobilize a statewide protest, invoking our constitutional rights under Sections 39 and 40. We will take our grief and resistance to every corner of Plateau State, peacefully but powerfully, until justice is done.

Governor Mutfwang must act or be remembered as the leader who watched his people perish.

Signed:
John Onah
State Coordinator, Take It Back Movement, Plateau State Chapter
