Sex-for-Grades Scandal: Principal Remanded Following Take It Back Movement’s Intervention

The Take It Back Movement (TIB) has played a pivotal role in ensuring justice in a high-profile sex-for-mark scandal involving a secondary school principal in Lagos State.

Following the Movement’s intervention, the principal of Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior Secondary School, Ojodu-Berger, was arrested and arraigned for allegedly attempting to cover up the sexual molestation of 11 female students by a teacher at the school.

According to Saharareporters, it was made known that the source familiar with the case confirmed that the principal, Osunrinde Omotayo Abiodun, was arraigned by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency on Wednesday.

The principal was eventually remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, marking a significant milestone in the fight against abuse of power and sexual exploitation in the educational sector.

According to a statement released by Bolaji M. Oluwatosin, Head of Interventions of the Take It Back Legal Aid Department, the Principal attempted to suppress evidence and intimidate a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Clement James, who had exposed multiple cases of sexual exploitation in the school.

“Do you all remember the Lagos school principal who locked a male NYSC ‘corper’ in the toilet, intimidated and unleashed male teachers of the school on him to coerce him to delete the evidences of scandalous sex-for-mark cases where over 11 girls were victims?” Oluwatosin wrote in a social media post titled Justice Served Upon TakeItBack Intervention in Sex-for-Mark Case.

He further disclosed that the breakthrough in the case came after TIB representatives engaged with key government bodies. “She was arrested and remanded in Kirikiri prisons after our intervention at the Lagos State Ministry of Education with the Quality Assurance Department and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency,” Oluwatosin stated.

The intervention was spearheaded by Omoyele Sowore, the Convener of the Movement. “On the insistence of our leader, Omoyele Sowore, who took up the case, Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek—the Lagos TakeItBack Movement Coordinator—and myself… immediately rose in defence of the whistleblower Corp member Clement James to demand accountability before the administrative committee he had to face at the Quality Assurance Department of the Ministry of Education on Monday, 7th April, 2025,” Oluwatosin added.

The principal, who was previously regarded as a powerful figure within the school, now faces legal consequences for allegedly shielding a sexual predator instead of protecting the female students involved.

“Today, the once-powerful principal who had the chance to stand up for the cause of JUSTICE for the school girls who could be her daughters but sought to shield a predator is now remanded in Kirikiri Prisons,” Oluwatosin declared.

Concluding the statement, Oluwatosin emphasized the importance of accountability in positions of power: “Let this stand as a bold declaration: Those who weaponize power to protect sexual predators will not go unpunished.”

The Take It Back Movement’s intervention has been widely commended as a courageous and timely act, reaffirming its commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable groups in Nigerian society.
