Take It Back Movement Leaders to Speak at Great Ife Unionism Symposium

The Great Ife Students’ Union has announced an event titled “Reawakening: The Symposium”, set to hold on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 12 noon in the iconic ACE Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Themed “Reviving the Spirit of Vibrant Unionism”, the symposium seeks to ignite the flames of progressive student activism and reinvigorate the culture of purposeful unionism on Nigerian campuses.

Leading the discourse are prominent figures from the Take It Back Movement, including its Convener, Comrade Omoyele Sowore, and Comrade Sanyaolu Juwon, the Movement’s National Coordinator, known for his passionate engagement in youth mobilization and social justice.

Also billed to speak are key voices in the Nigerian activist and academic communities:

Adeleke Olorunwa, youth development strategist

Yinka Salau, policy analyst and unionist

Adeola Soetan, ex-student leader and labor rights activist

Comrade Hassan Taiwo Soweto, education rights campaigner

Oloniniran Gbenga, journalist and public speaker

The symposium aims to confront the growing disillusionment with student politics and call for a renaissance in the values that once positioned Nigerian student unions as formidable forces for social change.

According to the Students’ Union, the event will serve as “a strategic platform to inspire a new generation of student leaders, strengthen ideological clarity, and revive the core essence of unionism in the face of increasing political and institutional challenges.”
