Take It Back Movement Secures Release of Woman, Her Two Children Held Overnight in Lagos Police Station on False Allegation

The Take It Back Movement, Lagos State Chapter, has condemned the unlawful detention of a woman and her two young children, who were reportedly held overnight at a police station following a false allegation instigated by an ex-police officer.

In a statement released by Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeeq, the Lagos State Coordinator, it was revealed that the chapter received credible information indicating that the arrest was based on a fabricated charge of assault. The mother and her children were detained overnight—an act Taofeeq described as “inhumane and totally unacceptable.”

“After our swift intervention, we were able to secure their release this morning after engaging with the area commander, who claimed he was not aware of the detention,” the statement read. “This raises serious questions about oversight and accountability within the command.”

Taofeeq extended special recognition to one of the movement’s leaders, Comrade Osuolale Oyenike, for her commitment and physical presence during the intervention, describing her as someone who “stood gallantly in the face of oppression.”

Reaffirming the movement’s commitment to justice and human rights, Taofeeq declared: “Silence in the face of injustice is complicity with the oppressors. We will continue to speak out and take action until justice and accountability become the norm, not the exception.”

The Movement has also called for a thorough investigation into the incident and urged authorities to ensure that no citizen is subjected to unlawful detention, particularly when minors are involved.
