Take It Back Movement Bauchi Chapter Questions Conference Centre Project, Calls for Real Development

The Take It Back Movement, TIB, Bauchi State Chapter, has said that true development is not about cutting ribbons or holding big ceremonies, but about improving the lives of ordinary people.

This was made known in a statement by Comrade Nazif Bashi, the Coordinator, Bauchi State, following the opening of the Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre in Bauchi.

According to him, many leaders came to Bauchi for the event with big speeches and promises, but after they leave, the poor will still see no real change.

“Development is not a ceremony — it’s a commitment,” Bashi said. “When the lights go off and the guests return to Abuja, what truly changes for the common man?”

He asked if the new building will create jobs or simply serve as another venue for government events and political gatherings.

“Will it bring investors or just attract more politicians? Will our youths finally get opportunities, or only new pictures for the media?” he added.

The TIB Coordinator said the money used for the project could have been better spent on reviving old factories like STEYR or the Bauchi Meat Factory, or on helping farmers and training young people to learn skills and start businesses.

“With the money spent on ceremonies like this, we could have built small factories, empowered farmers, and trained our youths to produce, not just applaud,” he said.

Bashi stressed that real development is not about beautiful buildings but about projects that make life easier for the people.

“We want a Bauchi where our youths are working, not wandering. We want leaders who invest in power, not PR. We want transformation, not televised triumphs,” he said.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, commissioned the Multi-Billion Naira Bauchi International Conference Centre.

Named Sir, Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre, Bauchi, the edifice was located directly opposite the Bauchi state Government House.

Obasanjo was accompanied by the Borno State Governor, Umara Zulum, Oyo State Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar during the commissions of the Centre.

While commissioning the structure, the former president described the gigantic project as a symbol of economic development and growth of Bauchi state.

He said the centre would help in boosting the economy of the state in various ways. He commended governor Bala Mohammed for the project.

Emirs of Bauchi, Ningi, Dass, Misau and Kataum were also present.
