The Osun State chapter of the Take It Back Movement has condemned the conduct of officers of the Nigeria Police Force following a viral video showing men identified as police officers forcefully entering a private building in Oroki Estate in Osogbo.
In a statement released on Friday, signed by Lijofi Victor, Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, Osun State Chapter, the movement described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable, stating that the actions of the officers appeared to blatantly disregard citizens’ rights and due process.
According to the statement, the video circulating on social media shows the officers breaching a private property in Oroki Estate in a manner that raises serious concerns about abuse of power and unprofessional conduct.
The organisation said it was “appalled and outraged” by the footage, noting that such actions contribute to the erosion of public trust in the police and undermine the rule of law.
The movement therefore called on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant authorities to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that any officers found responsible are held accountable.
The movement also stressed that security agencies have a responsibility to serve and protect citizens, not intimidate or oppress them.
It demanded that authorities carry out a thorough and transparent investigation into the viral video, take disciplinary action against officers found guilty of misconduct, and reaffirm their commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of citizens.
The move further urged the police leadership to introduce continuous training and sensitisation programmes for officers on human rights and professional conduct to prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to the movement, the people of Osun State deserve a police force that respects the law and upholds the rights of citizens.
The organisation also expressed solidarity with residents affected by the incident and with Nigerians calling for greater accountability from law enforcement agencies
