TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT, LAGOS CHAPTER, ANNOUNCES MASS PROTEST AGAINST FORCED EVICTIONS, ANTI-PEOPLE TAX POLICIES

The Lagos State Chapter of the Take It Back Movement,TIB, in collaboration with the Movement for the Transformation of Nigeria (MoTion), has announced plans for a mass protest slated for Friday, October 17, 2025, in Lagos State.

According to a statement signed by Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, the Lagos Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, the protest is a united outcry against what the organizers describe as “crippling poverty, forced evictions, exploitative fuel tax, and oppressive tax reforms being imposed by the Tinubu-led administration.”

The statement condemned the worsening economic conditions in the country, noting that millions of Nigerians have been pushed deeper into poverty as the cost of living continues to spiral beyond control.

“The regime’s so-called ‘tax reform’ has only worsened the economic hardship, targeting the poor while protecting the rich,” the statement read.

The TIB and MoTion also condemned the recent demolition and forced eviction exercise in Oworonshoki, Lagos, which displaced several families and destroyed homes.

The movement described the action as “a glaring example of government cruelty and disregard for human rights.”

“These acts are not only inhumane but a crime against humanity under international law,” the statement added.

They outlined four major demands, including:

  1. An immediate end to forced evictions and demolitions of poor communities.
  2. Reversal of the anti-poor fuel tax and all exploitative tax policies.
  3. Implementation of people-centered policies that prioritize jobs, housing, and social welfare over political patronage.
  4. Accountability for those who ordered and carried out the Oworonshoki demolitions.

Calling on Nigerians from all walks of life to participate in the peaceful demonstration, the Take It Back Movement emphasized that the action aims to reclaim the voice and dignity of the oppressed.

“We are calling on all Nigerians — students, workers, traders, and the unemployed — to join this peaceful protest and raise their voices against injustice and hardship,” the statement urged.

“We refuse to remain silent as the government continues to suffocate the poor while rewarding the corrupt elite. Enough is enough.”

The protest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM at the Lagos State House of Assembly, where demonstrators will converge to express their discontent with current economic and social policies.

Concluding the statement, the Lagos TIB Coordinator, Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to a just and equitable Nigeria, saying:

“Together, we can reclaim our dignity and demand a Nigeria that works for all, not just the privileged few.”
