What does the government do for me after all the taxes and levies? – Written by Oluwatosin Adeyemi

The government has the pattern of deodorizing neoliberal policies and making them look attractive to the people whenever they want to implement these anti-people policies, but history has taught us that these taxes push people more deeper into poverty and make life more hard for us. Such is the case of fuel subsidy removal, naira devaluation and the others the Tinubu regime has implemented since he came to power.

The function of the government is the security and welfare of the people, but that’s not the case in Nigeria. The government has adjudicate these responsibilities to individuals.

Despite these increments in taxes and levies, I provides for my own security, electricity, education, hospital bills and so on. Yet, the only benefit (fuel subsidy) I enjoyed from the government, the Tinubu regime removed it.

The Tinubu government wants world standard taxes but can’t provide world standard basic amenities.

If Nigerians doesn’t stand up to resist these taxes of poverty, this government will soon tax the only thing that keeps us alive – the air we breathe in.
