The Take It Back (TIB) Movement has announced plans to begin a nationwide voter sensitization and registration campaign aimed at encouraging more Nigerians to participate in the electoral process and strengthening civic education across the country.
In an announcement released by the movement, the Global Executive of the Take It Back Movement said the decision was reached after passing a resolution to kickstart the campaign as part of efforts to address growing voter apathy and deepen political awareness among Nigerians.
According to the movement, although voter registration figures have steadily increased between 2003 and 2023, there has been a worrying decline in actual voter participation. The 2023 general elections, it noted, recorded the lowest voter turnout since 2003.
The organization attributed the growing voter apathy to widespread public perception that votes do not always count and have often failed to translate into accountable governance, “The ruling class benefits when Nigerians withdraw from the electoral process,” the movement said, adding that tactics such as electoral manipulation and voter intimidation have historically discouraged mass participation and weakened the power of ordinary citizens.
The Take It Back Movement explained that the primary goal of the campaign is not only to increase the number of registered voters but also to educate citizens politically so they can make informed decisions during elections.
Beyond voter registration, the movement said the campaign is also designed to build the ideological and political consciousness of Nigerians, helping them understand that participating in elections is only one part of a broader struggle for justice, accountability, and what it described as “total liberation.”
