Responding to the disturbing news of a female student of the University of Benin, identified as Adekolore Idowu Glory, allegedly raped to death, the Take It Back Movement has issued a powerful call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
According to reports, the 22-year-old Adekolore Idowu Glory, a promising young woman and recent graduate of the University of Benin, tragically lost her life in a brutal assault on June 13 in the Iyowa Community in Benin City.
Speaking on behalf of the Take It Back Movement, National President of the Student Wing, Oguntola Sunday, vehemently condemned the heinous act committed against Adekolore Idowu Glory. He demanded that the Nigerian Police Force, Edo State Command, immediately investigate the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We, the Take It Back Movement, vehemently condemn the barbaric rape and murder of Adekolore Idowu Glory, a recent graduate of the University of Benin. We demand immediate action from the Nigerian Police Force, Edo State Command, to conduct a thorough investigation into this heinous crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.”, Sunday said.
He further underscored the importance of swift and decisive action in this matter, emphasizing the need for a zero-tolerance approach to gender-based violence and a commitment to ensuring that students, particularly women, can pursue their education in a safe and secure environment.
“We call for a zero-tolerance approach to gender-based violence and urge the authorities to prioritize the safety and security of students, especially women, in all learning institutions across the country.”, he added.
Glory, who had recently completed her studies at the University of Benin, was in the midst of her post-graduation procedures when her life was brutally cut short.
Reports indicate that her body was discovered near her residence in the Iyowa Community, suggesting that the heinous act may have occurred in close proximity to her home.
As the grieving family of Adekolore Idowu Glory struggles to come to terms with their devastating loss, a poignant video has emerged of her brother appealing to the Nigerian Police Force for assistance in unearthing the truth behind his sister’s tragic end. “Her lifeless body has been deposited at UBTH mortuary on the 15/6/24 with the help of the Nigerian police from Ekiadolor Division. She was beaten, rape and killed. Please, Nigerians come to my rescue. The help I need now is just for my innocent sister. My mum can’t hold herself.”, the young man said.
The police in Edo have yet to comment on the matter — as of the time of this report.
