Obasanjo Visits Bola Tinubu’s Wife for Sallah After Criticizing His Policies, Activist Sowore Slams Former President

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has made an unexpected visit to the home of President Bola Tinubu’s wife, Remi, in Lagos State to celebrate the Islamic holiday of Eid-el-Kabir.

This visit, coming on the heels of Obasanjo’s public criticism of Tinubu’s policies, has left many Nigerians speculating about the nature of the relationship between these two political figures.

President Obasanjo had openly endorsed Peter Obi as the preferred presidential candidate in the 2023 elections and snubbing Tinubu’s inauguration

Reports had on May 26 revealed how Obasanjo said that President Tinubu’s policies on fuel subsidy removal and exchange rates had adversely affected the Nigerian economy.

In a statement released by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo evaluated the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration over its first year in power.

Specifically, he asserted that these policies are driving away foreign investors, which could have far-reaching consequences for the country’s economic growth and stability.

According to Obasanjo, the current administration has not yet discovered an effective economic strategy that would inspire confidence among investors and attract more investment to Nigeria. He emphasized that a government’s ability to create a favorable business environment and encourage investment is crucial for economic development, and he suggested that the current government’s policies have been ineffective in this regard.

Meanwhile, the visit between Obasanjo and Tinubu’s wife, Remi, was confirmed by Busola Kukoyi, who serves as a media aide to the First Lady.

Kukoyi shared a post on the popular social media platform X detailing the interaction between the former president and the First Lady.

Kukoyi wrote: “Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the First Lady of the Federal of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu after receiving the former President who came felicitating on the Sallah Celebration on Monday, 17th June,” Kukoyi wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

In response to the meeting between Obasanjo and Remi Tinubu, activist and RevolutionNow convener, Sowore, took to his Facebook page to express his view.

Sowore referred to Obasanjo as “Baba Gbajue,” a Yoruba phrase that roughly translates to “Man of Subterfuge” or “Deceiver.” Sowore’s post suggests that this visit reveals a deeper, hidden relationship between Obasanjo and the Tinubu family that has been carefully concealed behind a façade of opposition.

“Baba Gbajue visits his real clients!
People Deceiving People since 1960!”, Sowore wrote.

Olusegun Obasanjo served as Head of State from 1976 to 1979, he made a dramatic return to politics in 1999. Running on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform, he was elected President of Nigeria, holding the position from 1999 to 2007.
