Take It Back Movement Condemns NNPC-Imposed Petrol Price Hikes, Threatens Mass Action if Government Fails to Act

The Take It Back Movement strongly condemn the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC) plan to increase petrol prices again, as revealed by a top official and reported by Premium Times.

We view this decision as a direct assault on the welfare of Nigerians, many of whom are already struggling to make ends meet.

With crude oil trading at over $78 per barrel and an exchange rate of N1,660 to a dollar, the existing petrol prices imposed on Nigerians are both indefensible and untenable. These prices place an undue burden on the Nigerian people

It is shocking and unacceptable that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has drastically increased petrol prices from N617 per litre to a range of N855 to N897 per litre, depending on location.

We demand that the Nigerian government act swiftly in addressing this unjustifiable hike in petrol prices as it is the responsibility of the government to safeguard the well-being of its citizens, and immediate intervention is necessary to protect Nigerians from the detrimental impact of these increased prices.

The Take It Back Movement is prepared to take mass action if the government fails to provide relief to citizens by reversing these price increases and implementing policies that prioritize the welfare of Nigerians over corporate profits.

The need for accountability is evident as Nigerians continue to suffer the consequences of these misguided policies that exacerbate economic hardship across the country. The government’s failure to address these pressing issues has left the people with no choice but to demand action.

We demand that the government act swiftly to address this crisis. Failure to do so will result in widespread protests and civil disobedience. We will send a clear message that the government must prioritize the needs of Nigerians and protect their right to affordable and accessible energy.
