Human rights lawyer Barrister Inibehe Effiong has criticized President Bola Tinubu for his call for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israeli-Hamas conflict while Nigeria faces significant security challenges.
Effiong argued that Tinubu’s focus should be on resolving Nigeria’s internal security issues and tackling the widespread criminal activities affecting Nigerian citizens before attempting to influence international matters.
At the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and League of Arab States summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, President Bola Tinubu had called for an immediate ceasefire and peaceful resolution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Reacting to the call, Inibehe said, “His opinion doesn’t count in the scheme of things.
“Tinubu hasn’t been able to resolve the conflicts at home but wants to have an opinion on a thorny international crisis.”
President Bola Tinubu arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, focusing on pressing issues in the Middle East. The summit, convened at the invitation of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
